Advocacy & Influence
For Landsec, decarbonising the economy and dealing with the implications of climate change are critical. Therefore, Landsec supports the work of government and NGOs to create impactful change.
Following COP21, Landsec became the first commercial property company in the world to set carbon emission targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative; committing to reducing its emissions in line with a two-degree world. Landsec achieved its carbon reduction target 11-years early and has since increased its ambition level with an updated SBT approved by the SBTi. Landsec was also one of the first companies globally to join all three of The Climate Group’s RE100, EP100 and EV100 campaigns.
Landsec is dedicated to working with the real estate industry to tackle global environmental and societal problems. As active members of the UKGBC and BBP, Landsec works along-side other industry leaders to enable industry-wide improvements through initiatives like Design for Performance and defining a net-zero carbon building framework.
Increasing transparency is key to driving climate action, and Landec is implementing the TCFD recommendations by disclosing the financial impact of climate risk to its portfolio. To help drive even more companies to take necessary climate action, Landsec is actively working with a coalition chaired by the World Business Council on Sustainable Development to expand the methodologies of setting SBT for the built environment.
